3 Simple, Effective Ways To Prevent Stress
Written By Jeff Smith
Let's face it, stress impacts us all doesn't it? There are examples we can each come up with where stress or a stress symptom prevented us from being who we really are, saying what we really think, doing something that we wanted to do or being as healthy or happy as we really know we could be. Wouldn't it be horrible to reach the end of our life knowing that we couldn't achieve what we most desire? That we let something as crazy as stress from making the most of this little time we have here on earth? Let's not be someone filled with regret - especially when we know that there are simple, effective ways to prevent stress in our life.
Before we can prevent stress, it is important that we realize what stress is, what stress symptoms are doing to our lives and what triggers these stress responses for us. We are all different, so this is something you must do yourself, but here are a few tips. There are four major areas where many of us are most impacted by stress. The first is emotionally - are there times when you close down, become withdrawn? Second, stress can impact our health - are there times when you can't digest properly or are constipated? Third, stress can lead to emotional anxiety, panic attacks or other emotionally undesirable results. Fourth, stress can lead to substitutions - druges, alcohol, eating disorders, self-inflicted pain or other emotional instability. What are your stress symptoms and what brings them on?
Do you experience stress symptoms when you are asked to deal with certain people? Do you get most stressed out thinking about the future? Do you have certain fears that bring on stress? Is there something in your past that is particularly stressful to you? To prevent stress, we first must understand what is causing stress in our life and then we can address it.
A second step is to manage your stress. One way to manage stress is to change your outlook on the situation. For instance, a great deal of negative stress is brought on by internal conversation in our heads about what will happen in a given situation - we think of the worst. Instead, try and re-frame your inner dialog to what is the "best" possible scenario of taking a certain action. Picture that in your head - re-framing is a very powerful way to manage stress in your life.
To help prevent stress based on things that have not yet happened, use methods of introspection such as yoga or meditation where you can focus on freeing the mind from subjective interpretations of the future and instead take a more objective look at life. With as little as 20-minutes each day for a 2-3 week period you can experience immense freedom, peacefulness, even happiness through applying these simple techniques. Even better, the benefit of using yoga and meditation to take a more objective view of your life last well beyond the 20-minute session - your mind gets trained to subconsciously use these techniques throughout the day, even though you don't even know it. The feeling of a powerful stress prevention program is beyond explanation, get started today.
